Information for Organ Donors
Individuals considering becoming an organ donor should consider that their anatomical gift could also benefit medical science for education and research. It is common for many to choose to become an organ donor by selecting on a driver's license or State Identification card. Both forms of donation are vitally important but only one will cover expenses like cadaver transport and free cremation with the return of ashes to the family. The cadaver transport and all other services only a licensed funeral home may provide to you are expenses the family are responsible for. Cadavers and organ transplants are commonly confused for the same. In fact cadavers are the human remains of someone who is deceased and generally utilized for medical purposes. Organ transplants are surgical procedures involving the usable vital organs of a deceased and previously enrolled individual being removed and transplanted into a living recipient. Cadaver organ transplants are actually a surgical procedure involving a recently deceased individual and a living recipient. Cadaver organ transplants save lives. Cadaver and organ transplants enable all of us to live longer, healthier lives.
Some may have thought being an organ donor was the right choice for them. This may well be you. Many of Life Quest Anatomical's registered whole body donors are former organ donors. Almost all of them had no knowledge of whole body donation and were anxious to participate in a program that helps benefit medical science on a whole. Organ donors are only eligible for enrollment if they have a maximum of one organ removed. This will effectively reduce trauma to the donor and will enable the placement of this donor into a program where they will benefit medical science the most. Organ donors should also consider that their very specific medical history enables physicians and reserarchers to learn very important techniques to save and improve the lives of many. The cadaver transport is provided at no cost to you, by a licensed, responsible and respected local funeral home in your area. The cadaver remains intact as the donor is transported to our facility. Scheduling of the various medical education and medical research projects to be supported is done once the donor arrives at our facility. The cadavers are then escorted to the various projects by a surgical technician on our staff.
Either way the act of giving will benefit a person and that's a good thing.
